December 26: Feast of St. Stephen (First Martyr)

  1. Saint Wenceslaus was Duke of Bohemia (907–935). The song was written by John Neale (1853). The King was braving harsh winter weather to give alms to a poor peasant on the Feast of Stephen (December 26). During the journey, his page about to give up because of the cold, is enabled to continue by following in the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow.
