Papal Arms with Tiara

1 comment:

  1. This one was done by the late Michael McCarthy and employs the headgear he thought would have made a good compromise between the mitre and the tiara: the camelaucum. It's actually the ancient cap exclusive to the popes which later developed into the mitre for bishops and also eventually had the three crowns added to it for the popes. Mccarthy saw it as a uniquely papal heraldic emblem when decorated with the three bands representing the three crowns. Unfortunately, he never convinced anyone else about this before his untimely death.
