I'm going to disagree and say that the most orthodox American peritus was Fr. Joseph Clifford Fenton. He was a stalwart defender of the proper understanding of Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus. Vatican II broke his heart. He came home from Vatican II and died shortly thereafter.
