I read somewhere the third crown was added later. Maybe it was finalized after this date, or the Pope worn an older crown depicted in the portrait. Perhaps in continuity with an ancient predecessor.
I have a question: what is the copyright status of that picture? I am looking for something fit for a cover of a certain Polish monarchist magazine and this painting is just perfect. Sadly, I've found no copyright info about it in google or wikipedia. If you can help me out, please contact me at: thebill_@poczta.onet.pl
