Where Pius XII's Niece Lived in the USA

In Rome she lived on the Via Nomentana.

In the 1950s she came to the USA and stayed here in an upstairs room at the Villa Walsh in Morristown, New Jersey.  A lovely place.  The Motherhouse of the Province of St. Lucia Pontifical Institute Religious Teachers Filippini.

George Washington slept just down the road.

The niece had hearing problems and so needed to come to the U.S.A. for treatment from a specialist doctor in New York City.

The Pacelli girl struck up a friendship with one of the nuns here, Sr. Margherita Marchione.  The niece then introduced the young American nun to "Uncle" (the Pope!) in St. Peter's Basilica.

  1. Blessed Pius XII has another niece who also lives in the Chicago area. Unfortunately, she does not want anything to do with her uncle or her namesake.
