Holy Mass in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

The morning of the pilgrimage.  Holy Mass at every altar.  At dawn, as Paris awakens.  The pilgrimage begins.

In secular Europe it was not only the religious drama that was outlawed but Christian art as well, and with it disappeared the art of Christian liturgy.  Expressions of Christian culture which united the Church with the life of the people, and sacred spaces which had been constructed over the centuries, have been lost.  This is a time of restoration.  The Roman rite is more beautiful than any fantastic dream of modern materialist civilization or even of old mythology.
