Yes, he was the notorious White Father D. whose Mephistophelesque face was omnipresent whenever there were Eastern or Oriental Orthodox visitors to Rome. Presumably he gave up trying to convert Muslims. I believe he was consecrated a bishop before his death.
I have an idea of who it might be....but I think I'll wait for confirmation from someone more knowledgeable before I make a total ass of myself....
