The mantelleta is currently used only by the Auditors of the Holy Roman Rota, the Promoter General of Justice, the Defender of the Bond of the Apostolic Tribunal, the Apostolic Protonotaries de Numero, the four clerics of the Camera, and certain canons who retain the privilege by papal decree. The monsignor pictured here is Msgr. Punderson, an American who serves as the Defender of the Bond of the Apostolic Tribunal
Cardinal Dante (entombed in crypt) would be proud!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the suppressed mantelleta? It is a fitting garment and should be allowed again everywhere. Some things were simply done away with in haste.
ReplyDeleteNot completely suppressed. Canons of St Peter's wear it, as well as the highest grade of monsignor (of which I think there are only a few).
