  1. I think this should be called the Patriarchal Anvil.

At least it has the tiara on it!

  4. Thank you for labeling it. I wouldn;t have known what this garbage was! Did they just pull it from the trash dump? Typical Vatican II Church 's idea of beauty.

  5. If you look close, it has Paul VI's coat of arms on it I think. Typical.
He was an iconoclast in so many ways!!

  6. you people are so darn picky!! Have you nothing better to do. To me it looks like the anchor of a ship. It may be in the wrong setting, but nevertheless it is the place where the Gospel (the word of God) is proclaimed. Get over it!!!

  8. that's funny. I was in the Lateran just the other day, and I didn't see it. Probably blocked it out while looking at the Berninis.

  10. A restoration and some creative arrangement could make this look good.

Far from it being according to my taste, I would nevertheless vote for the anvill to stay. Paul VI left a huge legacy, it is proper that he should get a memento at the Lateran Basilica. I find it a pitty thing that not being able to undo his legacy we try to erase his memory.

and the fact that this piece is very unfashionable today does not mean that a few hundred years later this could not become a celebrated piece. Think about how much people in the baroque era hated the gothic style. today nobody cares for the baroque and everybody loves the gothic.

  11. I do not recall it being there last July. I am sure I would have noticed it as it is so out of place in the ancient basilica and I did spend quite a bit of time there. Also, its base appears to indicate it is a portable thing. I trust that is so. It really is unattractive at best.

  13. The Coat of Arms of Paul the destroyer of liturgies. Worse Pontiff since Alexander VI, and they both had the same numbering.

  14. The Bishops of Rome seem to like it.

  15. "Worse Pontiff since Alexander VI"

I would not name Alexander VI along with Paul VI, who already did good things and the black legend is scrumbling. The montinian pontificate, an extreme desaster, can only be compared with the pornocracy of the early 10th century.

  16. Patriarchal? Which Patriarch? Certainly not the one of Rome because he himself got rid of that title, no?

  17. What's wrong with it is that its some silly lectern thats supposed to look like an open book for random laymen to read off of and its placed in a classical basilica in Rome nonetheless. They should have just put up a music stand for those random laymen, it would be easier to consign to an out of the way closet.

  18. IT is UGLY and THAT is its PROBLEM.

  19. It has served its' purpose and should put in the attic where some other things are being taken out and put to use. I wouldn't want to leave that space open and unused. And for Baroque, I have some of it in my home. It has made a comeback in a more tasteful style for furnishings and wallpapers.
