Looks nicer than the schmaltzy low Mass requiem with Cardinal Cushing that JFK actually had. It truly demonstrated how much liturgy had deteriorated at that point. Who would have thunk that things could have even deteriorated so much worse than that thanks to Vatican II!
The piece of paper on the pillar behind Cardinal Spellman is the mandate from the pope giving him permission to say Mass on the papal altar. Such permission is still required but I don't think they actually post it on the pillar of the baldachino anymore.
