Murdered Missionary Bishop in Alaska

In 1886 Bishop Seghers was shot to death by a demented white man in Alaska.  His tragic murder, however, is said to have accelerated the Catholic missionary work in Alaska and, in local church history, immortalized Charles John Seghers as the "Apostle of Alaska."

  1. Thanks JP for keeping his memory alive. Btw, his murderer was a mentally ill "half-blood" according to my old missionary newspapers. Not that it would matter.
