Priests: Design and Order Your Own Coat-of-Arms

  1. I would have one small disagreement. Don't "design" your own. If you don't know anything about heraldry you end up with something awful. Rather, seek out the advice of someone well versed in heraldry and have them design the coat of arms for/with you. It is possible that you have ideas of what YOU think will look great in a coat of arms and those ideas may go against the rules of heraldry and/or simply violate the rules of good taste. Seek the help of someone who knows what they are doing. Don't just contact a good artist and have him draw what you'd like. That's precisely why so much ecclesiastical heraldry is so poor. Oh, and if you live in England, Scotland or Canada (and several other countries that have heraldic authorities) you can't just adopt a coat of arms on your own. You have to apply to the authority for a grant or the coat of arms is illegal.

  3. I once asked Guy to design on for me, but he was swamped. Then I found Matthew and he designed one. I was looking for someone with some knowledge of Arms and heraldic designs, so I did not design my own.
