Yes, all bishops are equal, but papal primacy remains. Grades of orders with diversity of functions are fine and normal. There is an inequality of right and authority which emanates from the Author of nature Himself. It is even this way in the heavenly kingdom, where for example the choirs of angels are of differing ranks, subordinated the one to the other. As it says in the Bible that all should not be apostles, all not doctors, all not prophets, etc. (cf. 1 Cor. xii. 29) and of course all not popes.

Papal Arms with Mitre or Tiara
Yes, all bishops are equal, but papal primacy remains. Grades of orders with diversity of functions are fine and normal. If the tiara is to be understood, the principle holds good that "Custom is the best interpreter of law."
ReplyDeleteIf we indeed are supposed to view things through a lens of continuity then the Tiara should be used at times. Perhaps the Easter Blessing or at least when the Pope assumes his role. Abandoned completely is the Hermeneutic of Rupture at work.
