Catholic Culture: Papal Portrait

This photo was taken in the city of Minneapolis.  Every guest to this Catholic home sees this image on the dining room wall and this is public witness.

    I notice the palm behind the portrait. My grandparents do this, but I hadn't seen it elsewhere before. Is it an Italian custom, by any chance?
