Catholic Craftsmanship: Wood Carving from the North

Remember that Saint Joseph the Workman is the Patron of Artisans (cf. Roman Martyrology for May 1).  May through his prayers the Church be granted a new generation of worthy Catholic artisans.  O Lord, grant a new skilled generation to pass on these traditions of wood carving.

This photo was taken of a priceless antique crucifix in Ticino, the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland.  In this region as in the north of Italy the Catholic wood carvers were always to be found.  This vocation needs to be passed on to a new generation of artisans in places like the Tridentine Alps, South Tyrol, Alto Adige, etc.

Let us pray!
