A Word About Grace Kelly and a Modest Wedding Gown

As women of today know it is very difficult to find a wedding dress that meets Christian standards of modesty in dress.  At the same time every bride wants to look her best on that most special day of her life.

Girls, there is hope.  There can be a modest wedding dress and it can still look fabulous.  In Rome we saw the wedding gown of Grace Kelly at this really nice temporary exhibit: http://www.fondazionememmo.it/ita/incorso/mostra_incorso.asp.

Photos were not allowed, but everyone in that room agreed that it was the most stunning wedding gown on the planet earth.  The point is, it can be done.  Modesty and the perfect wedding gown can work and has worked.

  1. It was a lovely, lovely gown. I do wish modern girls wouldn't get married in those strapless, backless dresses that just seem to avoid pornography by centimetres. I have an 85 year old friend who says, "I always think they've forgotten to put the top half of the gown on over their corset and then I remember.. that is the gown." So sad.

  2. Ninety-nine percent of the brides pictured in local papers (Greensboro NC area) are wearing sleeveless and strapless wedding gowns. While I do not pretend to be a fashionista this style while obviously immodest is also incredibly unflattering especially if the bride is carrying extra poundage. Were I a bride with massively flabby upper arms I would do everything possible to keep them from public view!

  4. First, thank you for a wonderful blog, in general, and for this post, specifically, which I've forwarded to my sister who will be married in Rome next month. We may get by a see Grace's dress, time permitting. I couldn't find the name of your tour guide company, and am interested in finding a good one for my first tour of Vatican Museum. Could you post that? Thanks.
