Gianluigi Boccia was the man: born in 1936 he collected since boyhood Vatican coins and in the end had all 18,000 of them - the world's largest collection. Then the Vatican in gratitude purchased the collection from him. But before Gianluigi passed away in 2005, he in great wisdom as a studioso di medaglistica pontificia published a series of books on his coin collection to share with the world:
