Disgusting it is for sale.
It will surely be torn down for redevelopment.
Pray the Jesuits will change their minds.
We have already given away too much of our inheritance, often for quick cash, and this is one gem worth keeping in the family.

The sale and the likely destruction of the building are atrocious. I have been told, however, that the chapel will be saved: the plan is to dismantle it and to put it back together in exactly the same form in a building at Fordham University. That being said, it won't be the same when it's removed from its original setting...
ReplyDeleteI was on retreat there several times in the late 80s and early 90s. Beautiful, but the Jesuits will sell it. Part of a full-scale "retreat" they are putting on for themselves.
ReplyDeleteGreed. The Brady family gave it to the Jesuits (for free). Then the Jesuits turn around and sell it. Someone take them to court. Can the Jesuits not pass it on to another order.....
ReplyDeleteLet us consider the massive expense that a building of this size requires to upkeep.
ReplyDeleteIf that money goes for out of court Jesuit sex abuse settlements I am going to scream.
ReplyDeleteThe papal duchess Genevieve Brady would not be happy with this turn of events. The estate is gorgeous. And historic as it was visited by Card Pacelli who later became Pius XII.
ReplyDeleteAlas, what can we do but wish it were not so.
