A Word About Guns
A great fear is an unarmed populace. I encourage Catholic men to take up hunting and training in fire arms.
Bargains Found at Antique Shops
For many years a favorite hobby of yours truly has been to visit antique shops to look for religious art and Catholic goodies. Lots of bargains. Many of these are blessed objects. These items need to be purchased by caring Catholic families. Treasures to be kept and cherished in homes, not discarded in junk shops.
Catholic Culture: Brining Our Lord Into the Inner City
Bringing Our Lord to the streets for Corpus Domini. Public manifestations of the Faith work unseen wonders. Photo taken in Vancouver, Canada.
Architectural Study: First Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City
A lovely structure and a great place to pray.
Tepeyac Hill, the place of apparition, can be seen above and behind.
Tepeyac Hill
A.k.a. the "place of many miracles."
Where Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego in 1531.
A fine tour destination. Join us here on our next pilgrimage in November.

Catholic Architecture: Tiled Domes
A lovely site -- tiled domes seen in such Catholic wonderlands as Amalfi, Mexico, etc. This is one of the favorite little shrines of yours truly: Our Lady of Remedies, atop an abandoned pagan pyramid in Cholula, Mexico. The lovely tile is known as TALAVERA. I pray for you here.

Memorial Day
"My happiest thoughts on Memorial Day? Not a single man in any platoon
or squad I served in is not still alive and kicking to this day.
But all wars have casualties, losses and sacrifices - and I remember the men who went with us and did not return alive. I remember the memorial services we held for them in the dusty confines of forward operating bases.
And I remember the Ghosts of Fallujah and Tarmiyah - the haunted faces of the men who returned from the thickest of battles with brows heavy from the assault, and the death and suffering of their comrades.
I remember the medics, normally so calm around blood and pain. There was something different in their eyes afterward, as if their training and experience had failed them, even though it hadn't.
I remember the chaplains, and how it must feel to be the man wearing the cross and trying to keep morale and hope alive for these men's friends in combat as well as their families back home.
I rejoice that all of the ones you gave me are still here, Lord.
But I remember some very sad moments as well."

Prayer Request
Please pray for the repose of the soul of my friend, Ron Anderson.
Many fond memories of wine and laughter mixed with musings on epic travel experiences. Several times he crossed the ocean. His fireside stories helped inspire me as a kid to desire world travel.
Ron always looked sharp in his leather jacket in his Pontiac with hood decal. He was my dad's best friend, gentle and meek. May his memory be eternal!

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City
The old Basilica, begun in 1695. Raised to the status of Basilica by Pope St. Pius X, of blessed memory. The miraculous tilma of Juan Diego was kept here from 1709 - 1974. Although closed in recent years because it has been sinking, it is open again and a very special place to pray.

Teach Your Kids to Work
Hard work cleaning is good for the soul. It is also a good cure for stress, boredom and sadness.
And it teaches kids adult skills.
Mom had jobs day every Saturday. We worked. And we learned to clean well and actually to like it. And to take our turn and do our share.
That's how kids learn. They have to be taught at home by mom and dad. Many adults are slob children who were never instructed by their own parents how to clean and maintain a house like a grown up.
