"Sweeter even than to have had the joy of caring for children of my own has it been to me to help bring about a better state of things for mothers generally, so their unborn little ones could not be willed away from them."

Pro-Abortion Catholic Politicians
Photo taken at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
His name was Pierre Trudeau. In some ways he was a bit like the Ted Kennedy of Canada.
Very sad. And very sad to read the autobiography of his bipolar wife, Margaret. He sought to change traditional Western Ethic. Brings to mind this Lord Acton quote, "Political atheism: end justifies the means. This is still the most widespread of all the opinions inimical to liberty."
In his march to power he largely fought on the issue of public morality and used anti-Catholic slogans such as: sin is not a crime; the government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation; private morality is not public morality; this is a pluralistic society; etc.
"These are the days when the Christian is expected to praise every creed except his own." -Chesterton

Rome Quotes
"I thank God I live in a day when the enemy is outside the Church, and I know what he is doing, but I foresee a day when the enemy will be both outside and inside the Church, and I pray for the poor faithful who will be caught in the crossfire."

A Very Rare Sight: Kneeling in St. Peter's Square
Today one really only sees Catholics kneel in Poland. If you have been to Poland, you know exactly what I mean. Everybody enters a church and kneels. When they pray, they kneel. Bishop Sheen always said that half the daily Holy Hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament ought to be kneeling in silent prayer. Let your kids see you kneeling at home in prayer. Bring your kids to the Extraordinary Form where they can learn to kneel in prayer, and kneel to receive blessings.

Prayer Request for Rome's Finest Monsignor
Urgent prayers are asked for the health and well-being of the great Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro.
Il Monsignore was suddenly diagnosed with cancer early this week. He underwent surgery on Thursday, but the cancer is apparently advanced.
Monsignor is one of the few very finest priests in Rome.
He is a brilliant intellectual who has lived a storied life. He has the mind of a rapier.
One of my best Rome memories is attending his Low Mass in Trastevere back in the 1990s at Santa Maria della Luce.
He is faithful and diligent, keen and merciful. A gentleman from the old school. And he smokes wonderful cigars.
Thank you for your prayers for this noble son of Holy Mother Church.

Abortion is the Most Important Election Issue
"Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture-is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination."

Pius XI Blasts Sex Ed in Schools
"Another very grave danger is that naturalism which nowadays invades the field of education in that most delicate matter of purity of morals. Far too common is the error of those who with dangerous assurance and under an ugly term propagate a so-called sex-education, falsely imagining they can forearm youths against the dangers of sensuality by means purely natural, such as a foolhardy initiation and precautionary instruction for all indiscriminately, even in public; and, worse still, by exposing them at an early age to the occasions, in order to accustom them, so it is argued, and as it were to harden them against such dangers.
Such persons grievously err in refusing to recognize the inborn weakness of human nature, and the law of which the Apostle speaks, fighting against the law of the mind; and also in ignoring the experience of facts, from which it is clear that, particularly in young people, evil practices are the effect not so much of ignorance of intellect as of weakness of a will exposed to dangerous occasions, and unsupported by the means of grace.
In this extremely delicate matter, if, all things considered, some private instruction is found necessary and opportune, from those who hold from God the commission to teach and who have the grace of state, every precaution must be taken. Such precautions are well known in traditional Christian education, and are adequately described by Antoniano cited above, when he says: Such is our misery and inclination to sin, that often in the very things considered to be remedies against sin, we find occasions for and inducements to sin itself. Hence it is of the highest importance that a good father, while discussing with his son a matter so delicate, should be well on his guard and not descend to details, nor refer to the various ways in which this infernal hydra destroys with its poison so large a portion of the world; otherwise it may happen that instead of extinguishing this fire, he unwittingly stirs or kindles it in the simple and tender heart of the child. Speaking generally, during the period of childhood it suffices to employ those remedies which produce the double effect of opening the door to the virtue of purity and closing the door upon vice."
-Pius XI, Divini Illius Magistri, 65-67.

The Good Old Days in St. Peter's Basilica
Not to bandy the obvious, but it's a pity we did away with all this.
And so sad to see so many in the Vatican even today who are still under the spell of the euphoric '60s revolution.
The indictable liturgical renewal proved in many ways a disaster for Church and State. Not only did our moral and social values go out the window, but so did our liturgical values.
The most effective propaganda of the devil is the half truth. This is because the smell of the truth attracts us. The Church leadership, taught by the revolution sociologist to distrust its traditional moorings, did away with too much too soon.
We need to put down the revolution flute and get back on the track.

Rome Quotes
"Abortion kills twice. It kills the body of the baby and it kills the conscience of the mother. Abortion is profoundly anti-women. Three quarters of its victims are women: half the babies and all the mothers."

What the Pope's Office Looks Like
Another super rare image, taken in the 1950s. Today Pope Benedict has his desk on the opposite side of the room.
They say there is even a secret escape door in this room which leads to an outdoor exit located in the cortile on the ground level.
