When yours truly was an altar boy in the 1980s I noticed that as soon as girl servers were brought in, the boys would quit.
What is of the mind of the Church is that only males serve at the altar and this can be seen in the Hebrew and Christian tradition.

ReplyDeleteI think that, in general the answer is no. It is always no when instituted ministry is inolved.
There are ecceptions. Mature women attending daily Mass where no boys and generally no men probably should take this role. In convent chapels sisters should assist their chaplain. Mike+
