For New York, fine. But this does not work for Rome. This is the Ara Pacis in downtown Rome, Italy. Big fail for the Comune di Roma; and for Richard Meier.
I don't know, John; as modern architecture goes, that thing could be so much worse!
My worst beef about it is that it was CLOSED on every single occasion that I happened to manage to get to it, so I never managed to get a look at more of the Ara Pacis than what you can see through the glass walls. Boo.
My Italian is rusty. What building is this? I mean, what's it for?

ReplyDeleteOn the inside it is beautiful and fitting.
ReplyDeleteraph, true; but ur quote say it all:
ReplyDelete"Art, like morality, consists in drawing the line somewhere."
--- G. K. Chesterton
THAT'S the 'Ara Pacis'?
ReplyDeleteLooks more like an enclosed bus stop to me!
Wise words from GK Chesterton, John!
