What is Wrong with this Picture?

Odd what we sometimes see in church these days.

Last Sunday yours truly took this photograph at Holy Mass in Italy.

Needless to say, this cassock is too short.

And moms, when your sons serves at the altar, make sure they wear pants. And dress shoes.

  5. No, at most he's there.

Years ago in Montalcino I saw a grown man serving a funeral in a cassock which he had obviously been using since before puberty. It barely covered his knees.

  7. "Needless to say, this cassock is too short."

In german a cassock is called "Talar" from "vestis talaris" meanig a robe reaching to the ankles.
Therefor I always told my servers: If your shoes aren't showing, your cassock is too long. And if your socks are showing, your cassock is too short.

"And moms, when your sons serves at the altar, make sure they wear pants."

    Why should they?
For me it's perfectly okay for boys of this age to wear shorts in summer (even to mass). And I once read something like "Trousers showing under a cassock are protestant."

  11. For Altar-Boys, i think shorts, black socks and sandals are ok. But too short cassocks are always terrible to see!

    2. I think that sandals are ok only without socks and I don't see any problem that the altar boys wear sandals (of course without socks).

    1. Reading your comment it seems to me that you see as inappropriate that a child wears sandals at church, not only that an altar boy is wearing that footwear while serving. You are speaking of respect for the sacred place, for God and also of self respect. Really I don't understand why. Furthermore I don't see as inappropriate even that the altar boys wear sandals. Why shoes or sneakers would be more appropriate? About this point, however, I know that there are many different opinions. Probably that depends also from the different cultural points of view. During a trip to India, I saw that in most churches they see as inappropriate that the altar boys wear any sort of footwear.

    1. The cassock is short, you are right. But why a child would have to wear long trousers. And what is the problem with sandals?

    2. Perhaps you have no more interest about this theme, but really I don't understand what a problem is if an altar boy wears sandals.
