SECOND NATIONAL PRO-LIFE MARCH IN ROME: MAY 22 “LIFE DAY: PRO-LIFE ITALY UNITED"

Dear friend:

A national "March for Life" will take place in Rome this year, on May 22nd, from St. Peter's Square all the way to the Senate in order to reaffirm an uncompromising YES to the life of every human being, from conception to natural death.

Last year, in fact, the Movimento per la Vita (Movement for Life), the Forum delle Famiglie (Forum of Families) and the Associazione Scienza e Vita (Association Science and Life) launched an unprecedented LIFE DAY event in Italy with the first ever Italian National March for Life.  This was in order not to forget May 22, 1978, the day in which the Italian Parliament passed the infamous “Legge 194” (law No. 194), which legalized the horrible crime of abortion.

The LIFE DAY initiative is openly drawing inspiration from the annual march in downtown Paris, on the anniversary of the Veil Law, but most notably from the annual march each January 22nd in the US, from the Mall to the Supreme Court, where abortion was legalised precisely on the same day with 1973's Roe v. Wade.  In addition, there is another march, albeit younger but no less important, which unfolds through the streets of central Brussels against the Lallemand-Michielsen law from 1990 that introduced abortion in Belgium.

The city of Rome, with this march in its historic centre, spiritually intends to join in protest in the other capitals around the world against such legal slaughter of innocents which needs to be terminated once and for all.

The 2011 event’s slogan is “Italy United Pro-Life:.”  Protesters will meet at Piazza Risorgimento at 10:30 a.m., a few minutes walk from St. Peter’s Square (and 50 meters away from the underground Line A stop, Ottaviano), for the marchers then to proceed to the nearby St. Peter's Square.

After having prayed the Regina Coeli with and for the Holy Father at 12 p.m., we will march as far as Piazza Navona and the adjacent Senate or the Upper House of Parliament. A detailed programme will be provided by the organisers to all the participants after their registration at the special website: http://www.lifeday.it/.

For further information or registration, please e-mail: info@lifeday.it.

Centro Culturale Lepanto, as a veteran participant in the Washington march, calls upon all friends, supporters and benefactors throughout Italy and beyond to participate in large numbers while informing our office (lepanto@lepanto.org) about their participation for a more effective coordination.

The potential impact of this event cannot be underestimated. It is a dream come true.

At long last, a national pro-life march is taking place in the Eternal City, the heart of Christendom, with a Vicar of Christ like Benedict XVI who has tirelessly proclaimed the right to life as one of the “non negotiables” of life.

The very slogan is not by chance, the organisers have explained, since it is a call or all Catholics and goodwill people to stay united behind such noble cause, the defence of defenceless, and at least on such occasion to overcome all those divisions that have been marring the upholders of the “culture of life” and more in general the side of the good for too long by now.

Thanking you in advance for your participation, support and any cooperation we ask for your prayers for this event to be a successful development in the relentless battle against abortion!

Respectfully yours in Iesu et Mariae,

Fabio Bernabei
