What Antique Prelatial Sandals and Gloves Look Like

From Maurizio: "These articles of vestments were part of Roman Imperial Court dress, granted to the pope and the bishops when Constantine ascribed them to the court rank of illustres, while the pope was ascribed to the rank of gloriosissimus, the top rank of the illustres. The stole, pallium, and casula were granted, too, as parts of the court dress; and until recently the pope wore only white and red, the senatorial colours. Actually the tiara was the only priestly article of dress the pope used, the only which wasn't of lay court dress."

These items belong to the Rome FSSP in URBE parish, Ss. Trinità and date from the XVII c.  Note the very ancient, open sandal-like style of the sandals.  Would be nice to have these reproduced  in all colours for the parish, but that will take a very generous private donor.  Anybody?

  1. A while back you wrote about the way Gammerrelli had distorted the gloves so they looked more like ladies evening gloves.

    Has that situation been reopaired?

  3. Gammarelli has not changed their gloves. However, just tell them how you want them made and they can do it.

In Rome you don't order online. It's still old-school. You go in and get measured and pick out what you want.
