Bella Tradizione: Che Continua Cosi!

Pope Francis has revived an old tradition that had fallen into disuse: following his election, he removed his red skull cap and placed it on the head of the bishop-secretary of the conclave. This means Lorenzo Baldisseri of Peru (on the far right) will be created a cardinal at the first consistory.
 Thanks, Athy!

  1. Are you sure he's actually aware of ANY traditions?

  2. Dear friend
Dom Baldisseri is not from Peru, he is italian and was the previous nuncio to Brazil. His term as nuncio was not good for brazilian traditional catholics. Pope Benedict did not created him cardinal (and it was a tradition that all previous nuncios in Brazil were made cardinals) and I think his removal from Brazil was a gift to my church.
Cardinal Baldisseri is a terrible thing to think about.

  5. from the BBC News

Pope Francis' first moves hint at break with past By David Willey BBC News, Rome

    Where one reads:

Minutes after the election result was declared in the Sistine Chapel, a Vatican official called the Master of Ceremonies offered to the new Pope the traditional papal red cape trimmed with ermine that his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI gladly wore on ceremonial occasions.

"No thank you, Monsignore," Pope Francis is reported to have replied. "You put it on instead. Carnival time is over!"

I hope the new Pope will tell his predecessor when they meet next weekend that for the past 7 years, he has been dressed in a carnival costume. Truly, a very bad start and it prepares us of what is coming.

Lets hope the new bishop of Rome remembers the great saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, a Capuchin Franciscan friar. Even though he lived a life of obedience, extreme austerity, poverty and simplicity, when he was to celebrate Mass he used beautiful and elaborate vestments and lace amice for the Glory of God. This is the true simplicity, humility and obedience.

  6. you guys need to stop thinking in worldy things such as dress protocol and focus on the actual person. Pope Francis is known for his humility and he is now your spiritual leader so if he feels that way about clerical regalia then so be it. I'll pray for all you so called "traditionalist".

  7. 'lace amice', how is this specifically 'for the glory of God' more so than any other vestment or style of vestment. Humility in simplicity.

  9. Bergolio's alleged comment to the Papal MC about the mozetta remains an allegation and has no place in any published work about activities in the conclave. We certainly know that Pope Francis has declined to wear the mozetta to date, but that does not make the alleged comment authentic.

  10. Most nuncios of the major countries have only one step up: to a red hat and a job at the Vatican. There have been exceptions, though, one being the late Archbishop Jean Jadot who was recalled to Rome but never created cardinal.
