What a "Panikhida" Looks Like

Rome: December 5, 2010.

For the repose of the soul of Thomas DiPippo.

"I went home with Viktor that evening and helped him celebrate a Panikhida, or Requiem, a very beautiful Russian memorial service for the dead."

-With God in  Russia, p. 322.

May his memory be eternal!

  1. Give rest, O Lord, to the soul of Thy servant Thomas who has fallen asleep.

Holy Trinity Cathedral (OCA) put out a CD "Bright Sadness, The Orthodox Christian Rite of Burial" a few years ago which is beautiful, and the version of the Panikhida I am familiar with. Sadly the CD seems to no longer be available.

My parish celebrated a Panikhida on the Latin Church's Feast of all Souls in the Porziuncola Nuova in San Francisco a couple of years ago, a lovely sharing of East and West.
