Once as a young boy one of my grandfathers, who was born in 1911, shared that one of his childhood memories was putting the shoes and socks on the visiting Archbishop. I had no idea what he meant. Later, through personal study I found out what "sandals" and "buskins" were. Then I moved to Rome and for the first time saw them.
The sandles should not have heals... :-)
