I'm always puzzled when I see an archbishop wearing the pallium. I've been told the pallium has five crosses which represent the wounds inflicted upon Jesus during the crucifixation (one wound in each hand, one wound in each foot and one wound in Jesus' side). However, when I see a palluium being worn, I count more than five crosses. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
The pallium now, is presented starting this year in a box similar to this but simpler, like this one Archbishop Cupich is holding: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CIr-jnqWwAETWru.jpg

ReplyDeleteDo Archbishops Still use this box, or is it a lost tradition?
