What the Little Box That Holds the Pallium Looks Like

A little portable "house" box with embossed images of Peter and Paul on each side.

  1. I'm always puzzled when I see an archbishop wearing the pallium. I've been told the pallium has five crosses which represent the wounds inflicted upon Jesus during the crucifixation (one wound in each hand, one wound in each foot and one wound in Jesus' side). However, when I see a palluium being worn, I count more than five crosses. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

    1. Do Archbishops Still use this box, or is it a lost tradition?

    2. The pallium now, is presented starting this year in a box similar to this but simpler, like this one Archbishop Cupich is holding: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CIr-jnqWwAETWru.jpg
