At one point there was eve a unique Holy Week ceremoniale for the Sistine chapel, with particular ceremonies for the distribution of palms on Palm Sunday, the Mandatum on Maundy Thursday, the Blessed Sacrament procession on Good Friday, and the fire on Holy Saturday. We should not let these go by the wayside either!
The Sistine Chapel has become a terrarium of sorts with adjusted atmosphere, humidity, etc. to protect the artwork that apparently precludes the use of incense any more within its hallowed walls. Only limited controlled ceremonies are permitted and even then the absence of incense makes one cringe.
I pray that the pope will celebrate the EF soon to really give it validity. I know that papal masses of the EF were filled with rituals not used in a regular pontifical mass and some of that may today not be suitable....but he could celebrate the EF as a bishop would...afterall he is the pope he could do it. But, I hope he can soon say the EF publicly.

ReplyDeletePeople are asking the Holy Father to say publicly the EF Mass. This is better for starters. Cardinal Burke can celebrate with ICK servers.
