I don't think they are ugly. Yeah some things that Paul VI commissioned were ugly. (The sculpture in the Paul VI hall for example) Some were not. Peter and Paul are still depicted in a traditional way. Where I go nuts is with the crazy abstraction and iconoclasm that went on. It will take years to recover from that. But simple using medieval or ancient forms is ok in my book.
This is the new, ugly version. Paul VI had even these changed. Would be nice to see a return to the classic old version from the good old days.
