I'm curious too. Is it the norm for a cathedral canon to wear a mitre and pectoral cross, or even vest with a dalmatic and chasuble like a bishop? I understand there might be certain privileges accorded to some priests, but aren't these episcopal insignias?
ambrosian canons were given privilege to use certain pontificals. they even have their own ferula with an orb on top. they can only use these in some occassions unlike bishops.
Why does he wear a pectoral cross, ring and mitre if he is not a bishop?
