I used to think this also, but then learned that he opposed every liturgical change of Vatican II. I even wrote to him when I was a child and received a hand-written card in reply. I believe that Pope Pius XII kept Dante on his toes because he disliked long drawn out ceremonies. He would ask Dante to cut them and even cut parts out himself during liturgies, particularly consecration of Roman churches.
