At the parish of Ognissanto, in the San Giovanni neighborhood (Re di Roma metro stop), constructed under the pontificate of Pope St. Pius X.
Sunday, March 7, 1965.
The lovely sanctuary, later gutted, reflects the spirit of that age of revolution. They really believed modernity had come into its own. Hopefully the original decor will be restored with it's gorgeous Carrara of the Sacred Heart.
Revolution then and revolution now.
ReplyDeleteThe Church has lost her memory.
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose you or any readers know more about the painting of the holy family in the bottom picture? My grandfather was the model for Jesus, and for decades we have not known where the painting is or whether it still existed - until recently! We are visiting soon so would love to know more about it - who painted it, how long it has hung in this church, and if it has hung anywhere else before. Thanks!
