Bishop Sheen in Rome

Basilica of Sts. John and Paul.

This is the one church in Rome where I have always felt the most peaceful.  Here and in the old chapel of the little house on Humility Street.

  1. With the other two bishops vested thus, might this be the occasion of Archbishop Sheen consecrating a bishop? The other two being co-consecrators?

  2. What a beauty and majesty. Simple and yet so inspiring. Not to mention, so notably Roman Catholic!
It deeply pain me that we live in a period where liturgical beauty is perceived as something evil and highly undesirable.

  3. It is his own consecration in 1951.

  4. Back when mitres were still mitres. Not like the small, modern ones. Thank you for sharing this beautiful picture with us!
