Lost Altar Cards

Ottawa.

Reminds me of the time I found myself in the basement of a basilica in Brussels, Belgium. There were piles of dusty old altar cards tossed amid the rubble of sixties hymnals.

  1. Finding like items discarded in basements, broom closets, and, unfortunately, dustbins, makes me a member of The St. Dismas Society! May the "good thief" speak to Our Lord on my behalf when I explain to Him on Judgment Day why I "liberated" such things!

  2. Funny you mention the Basilica of Koekelberg in Brussels. It is nowadays used for indoor base jumping from the top of the cupola, down to the altar. They are proud of hosting 2 museums in the basilica, a restaurant, meeting rooms, and other secular events. On their website, you really have to look hard to find the mass times; lost in and amongst all the clutter. And when you find it, there is only 1 mass a day, and 2 on Sunday. Shocking for a Basilica Minor.
There you go, that is the state of the church in Belgium. But then, Cardinal Suenens was archbishop there in the 60's. He was the decisive force behind the Conciliar documents Lumen Gentium and Gaudium et Spes. They have tried really hard to destroy the Church in Belgium and they have succeeded.
The only hope left is SSPX.
