One of the smartest things I ever did was read the Council documents cover to cover. 

It then gives you a whole, more complete perspective.

    I enjoy reading the documents of Vatican II. They are inspiring and clear. The majority of the bishops were solid and traditional. "Do you think receiving holy communion on the hand should be be admitted? No: 1,233; Yes: 597 (Memoriale Domini 29 May 1969; trans. Austin Flannery 1975: 151).
