St. Nicholas Day

Dad always had us kids put our shoes out for St. Nicholas Day.

The night before we would carefully place them out along the side of the piano at the foot of the stairs.

Then in the morning we would rush down with eager excitement and savor the candy.  It was a fine prelude to Christmas morning.

Then I grew up, moved to Rome, and twice today made a visit in the Roman Basilica of St. Nicholas to offer a prayer of thanksgiving.

Today was the Rome-Lazio game.  And Germans in Rome had a St. Nicholas party.  And it was the onomastico day of many.

Thought for the day?  St. Nick acquitted himself with distinction.  Let us, through the grace of the God, do the same.  Oremus!
