"Lectio Magistralis" and "Ferraiolone"

To celebrate the official opening of each new academic year Rome universities (usually sometime in November) have a little celebration with a lecture given by a VIP.  This is Card. Bertone giving the lectio magistralis this year at the new European University of Rome (run by the Legionaries of Christ): http://www.unier.it/.

Nice, but not the same without the ferraiolone in readiness for an academic function (with biretta).  Sometimes it takes a layman, but this is what the academic biretta is for, guys!
