This is where my great-grandparents, Anthony and Louise Sonnen, were wed on June 22, 1898 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
It was Louise's 24th birthday as she was born in St. Paul on June 22, 1874
The original chapel was destroyed when in 1912 a new church was constructed on the same site.
In 1948 this basement chapel was completed. The On June 6, 1948 the first Mass was offered on this altar at 8:00 a.m. Eleven public school kids received their First Holy Communion at that Mass.
Louise Asfalg and Anthony Sonnen. Pray for them. May they rest in peace.
They left a Catholic progeny. May God be praised for the faith of our ancestors and may we be worthy to follow by grace and courage in their footsteps.
Time to change the brown carpet.
ReplyDeleteIs there a reason why the carpet is so filthy?
ReplyDeleteI recommend an oriental rug on the footpace.
ReplyDeleteIn the parishes defense, it is challenging to keep carpeting clean in Minnesota, especially, this time of year, as we track in mud, dirt, snow and wet. The fine altar servers, Deacons and Priests of St. Agnes have the same challenge. I will gladly pray at a Mass with a dirty carpet, or dirty marble or tile flooring, or even dirt ground, as long as it's reverent and respectful. This is an ad orientem only chapel. There is no Cranmer table. This is one the greatest chapels in all of the Catholic world for daily Mass.
