The pictures are so small it's difficult to compare. Of course the obvious factor is size and import. Although I can't tell if the 1965 version is the whole altar? I think the 2013 version is the pope's 'throne' only- way up behind the altar.
Obviously these are two very different manifestations of ecclesiastical consciousness which only continue to drift further apart. One must either accept that something went horribly wrong from the head down (which is anathema to those who would wave the flabella but at the same time rejoice over the two recent papal canonizations) OR accept that this new manifestation is the work of the Holy Spirit and embrace it as good Roman Catholics, i.e. "Pray and obey." I appreciate the nostalgia.
Come in stop being so hard and missing a time you were not even a thought in your mothers head. Stop being so traddy and star being a faithful Catholic...
The Church has done away with excessive monarchical ostentation and has no choice but to do so... A little aestheticism is good but these days we are well aware the money/resources would be better spent elsewhere.
