Unfortunately, the flag is historically innaccurate. During WW2, the Canadian Red Ensign was defaced with the Royal Arms showing the maples leaves in green, not red.
Mr MacLean is quite right: the maple leaves in the base of the coat of arms were changed from green to red only in 1957. Regardless, the Canadian Red Ensign is a glorious flag!
Now that's a flag!
