It's nice to see that the Italians have, in some instances, even more appallingly bad taste than we do here in the USA. It makes me feel a little bit better even while cringing at how ugly some of these things are. Let alone the poor theology/ecclesiology that is communicated by the arrangement of that sanctuary. Just aesthetically speaking: it's UGLY.
The Passionists who staff this Shrine and Church at Nettuno and in Italy are extremely liberal. Same in all Europe and the USA. They've lost a ton of members since the collapse of the Church after Vatican II, down from close to 4,000 before the Council, to less than 2,000 today. Only about 220 aged members left in the USA total....which once had close to 700. The Order once was very strong in Italy....many vocations and a vibrant presence in Rome. No longer. Or anywhere else.
"... and the next item up for bids is this hubcap inspired tabernacle driven to Mass on Sundays by the former priest's mother. The bidding starts at $39.95 for a quick sell."
Looks like an oscullating fan to me...
ReplyDeleteThe tabernacle, from this view, looks like an expensive fan.
ReplyDeleteHideous.

ReplyDeleteThat's a tabernacle? I thought it was a fan!

ReplyDeleteI agree that it looks like a fan or a huubcap.
ReplyDeleteIf it weren't gilded I would have guessed that it came from a concrete bunker (aka, cathedral) in Los Angeles USA.
Italians were really beguiled in a rare, ignoble and sad way by the 1960s.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is THAT? Looks like a fan to me!
ReplyDeleteSheesh-one would think the Italians would have had better artistic taste in the 1960s.

Credo! The horrible tabernacle is in the same level of the "table of the Word".
ReplyDeleteTerrible.
