Ascona, Switzerland: the Official Coat-of-Arms

I don't know the history, but it could have been because the heart and life of the small village of Ascona had been its boys school, the Pontificio Collegio di Santa Maria della Misericordia in Ascona (the Pontifical College of St. Mary of Mercy in Ascona), perhaps when it became a comune, from Locarno, they just adopted the same arms by which the town was already identified.
