A Word About Using a Microphone for the Extraordinary Form

Many clergy don't like a mic at the altar.  Perhaps it seems more delightfully Ottocento to them.

Many lay folk prefer a mic at the altar, so they can actually hear what is going on!

Yours truly is in favor of the mic, on most occasions.

  2. No mic please! I won't rant about it, but it seems off to me, almost vulgar or profane.

  3. I'm fine with a mic, provided it is discreet. The liturgy isn't just for God; it's also for the faithful, and if they cannot hear the prayers and readings, it diminishes the full experience of the service. We go to church in order to HEAR the Gospel proclaimed, and only then are we invited to partake of communion.
