Catholic Mexico

Nice to see the Spanish tradition of the veil of the bride covering also the bridegroom, seen in the image.  They also have the old tradition of the blessing of the coins and of the rosary/cord.

These traditions came from Catholic Spain and spread to countries such as Mexico and the Philippines, etc.

BLESSING OF THE ARRHAE (coins)

Let us pray.

BLESS, OH LORD, THIS EARNEST MONEY, which today Thy servant N. puts into the hands of Thy handmaiden, N., as Thou didst bless Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob and Rachel. Grant them the grace of Thy salvation, an abundance of things, and the constancy of work. May they flower as the rose planted in Jericho, and may they fear and adore our Lord Jesus Christ Thy son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee, God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
R. Amen.

Groom:
N., receive these coins as a sign of our common effort, to live a simple life in imitation of Christ and his Gospel.

Bride:
N., I receive them as a sign of the common care we will have in sharing all of our blessings with others, but especially with those in need.

VEIL

Priest:
N. and N., this veil covers you today reminding you and us that Christ covers us in his love. Your new home will be a place where God dwells because you have chosen to live under the mantel of His love.

CORD (may also be a long Rosary)

Priest:
The Cord looped and crossed in the center is wrapped around the bride and groom to symbolize the Blessed Trinity; the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit who are one and the same. This cord without beginning or end symbolizes this same union and the infinite nature of your marriage.

Thanks, Fr. Pablo for the pic!
