Greatest American Pastor in Rome

If you have an interest in Rome, be sure to read American Pastor in Rome.

Published in 1966, it is the autobiography of Fr. James F. Cunningham (1901-1994).

A delightful read full of fascinating anecdotes and tidbits of forgotten Roman lore.

Fr. Jim was rector of Santa Susanna's in Rome in the 1950s.

His great hobby was golf.  He spent a lot of time at the Acqua Santa golf club.

You can read his bio here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=95482494.

Over the years he did a lot of good for a lot of people.  May his memory be eternal.

  1. He left Rome in 1964 after 12 years pastor (completing two six-year terms as pastor of Santa Susanna's). He had great devotion to St. Genesius, the patron of actors who is remembered with a chapel in S. Susanna's.
