The recent canonisations of John XXIII and JP II are still vivid and now we learn that Paul VI will be beatified in October which causes many to ask - "What happened to Pius XII?" He seems to be permanently sidelined as he doesn't seem to be on the Vatican's radar at all. Are the canonisations really bound up in church politics and left vs right? Are other considerations other than sanctity being applied? And where is Archbishop Sheen's cause at this time? Is it moving forward or stalled?
i wouldn't call it sidelined. JPII beatified Pius ix 122 years after his death, pius v was beatified 100 years after his death. so you never know...he was only just declared venerable in 2009. fulton sheen may be beatified within a few years: http://www.archbishopsheencause.org/recent-news/archbishop-sheen-prayer-league/359 but again you never know.
