It appears that His Eminence has ditiched the Paul VI modern - art type ring he received from Pope Benedict XVI for the blue sapphire always traditionally given to Cardinals. Cardinal Burke is a great churchman.
Congratulations to His Eminence! I would have loved to have been in Rome for something like this! But if I had the chance to greet any of the new Cardinals in person, I'd probably put my foot in my mouth and say something stupid. Oh well... You are so lucky, John, to be living in Rome!

Cardinal Burke would make a great Pope.
ReplyDeleteThe rings Paul VI introduced (gold bands) are hideous compared to the sapphires Cardinals used to get.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping that Pope Benedict would have allowed for a return of the cappa magnas for this year's consistory of new Cardinals.
Perhaps next time.
I hope there is a next time for him to create more cardinals. And a next, and a next after that!
