AUGUST 1ST: PETER IN CHAINS. St. Peter led an amazing life! He even
raised a lady named Tabitha from the dead in Joppa (read Acts 9). Read
the story of "Pete
r in Chains" in Acts
12: 6-8. While Peter was imprisoned and bound with chains, an angel
struck him on the side and woke him saying: "Get up quickly." The
chains dropped from his hands. "Wrap thy cloak about thee and follow
me," the angel instructed. Thus the story of St. Peter's jail break.
Today these chains are kept safely in the Roman Basilica of San Pietro
in Vincoli for all to see, a magnificent church consecrated in 439 AD.
Did you know this church also houses Michelangelo's renowned statue of
Moses?
